Home » Jungian Cognitive Function Test

Can this personality test figure out your strongest cognitive functions? Carl Jung believed that we all had one or two of eight cognitive functions. He writes that: "When a function habitually predominates, a typical attitude is produced. According to the nature of the differentiated function, there will be constellations of contents that create a corresponding attitude." (Psychological Types by C G Jung : Para 691, Page 417) and that The introvert does possess an extraverted attitude, but it is unconscious, because his conscious gaze is always turned to the subject.(Two Essays on Analytical Psychology by C G Jung : Para 81, Page 56)

Jung argued for the development of a cognitive function. We should make conscious to ourselves our mind and our thoughts and develop a conscious cognitive attitude. Beyond that, he argued that psychic energy comes from our ability to manifest and express our cognitive functions in a distinct and refined manner.

But there is no energy unless there is a tension of opposites; hence it is necessary to discover the opposite to the attitude of the conscious mind.(Two Essays on Analytical Psychology by C G Jung : Para 78, Page 53)

That means your goal is to develop and become more conscious of the attitude of your mind and to resist mental dullness or the tendency of the mind to drift into autopilot. Learn to manifest your inner strength and to express to the world who you are, and develop a stronger awareness not just of how you think, but also how other people think. Enter into a flow state by learning how to be yourself while simultaneously developing a stronger relationship to the outer world.

Take the test

My name is Erik Thor and I have spent years studying Carl Jung and psychometric instruments. I rely on scientific standards in testing to help build highly accurate personality tests. I take a statistical approach to personality tests and your results and answers are studied and tested to ensure the personality test performs to the highest possible standards.

The Cognitive Functions

What can the cognitive function test tell me?

What your strongest developed cognitive patterns are, what personality traits you most likely have as a result of your cognitive traits, and your emotional health and well-being.

How can I learn more about the cognitive functions?

You can start exploring the cognitive functions through my articles and videos. I also recommend exploring Carl Jung's books and videos on the Cognitive Functions. I also recommend Harry Murrel from Cognitive Personality Theory.

  1. Bad test confound functions questions can sometimes be answered by Te Ti Ne Fi as well and by Fi and Fe or even Te. And results are incoherent ISTJ highest function Ni.

  2. in eric thor personality i always got istj, but in cognitive function i got intj, in sakirnova i always got intj and once i got istj

  3. I keep on getting ENTJ on every different test (Jung, Myers Briggs, this), even though sometimes I change all of my answers! This is so annoying. I am sick of being an ENTJ and people not understanding me and people thinking I’m being mean when I’m just being honest or trying to joke. How do I change my mbti?

  4. I really can't believe it, I'm spending the end of my adolescence and I'm under a lot of stress because of the college entrance. I was an istj, and Si always came out as a main function, so I thought it wouldn't change. In the meantime, I didn't think my function would change, but I could see that the mbti type and function had really changed a lot over the months. These days, whenever I do the mbti test, there's an intj. This is ongoing, but whenever the 8-function test was performed, intp, which is the main function of Ti, comes out. It was unbelievable and amazing.

  5. I got highest scores on all extroverted functions. I think Se way too high for me. You are missing 3 sensing types: isfp, esfj and estj. Guess those types don't like these tests nor frquent sites they find them on while inp and inj really do. No explanation I found for temperament and those other traits.

  6. Interesting. I'm not sure if my situation is unduly influencing my responses. Your brief test indicates I'm straddling Feeling and Thinking. Since I'm under extreme stress I'm more wary of impulsive feeling based decisions and feel safer and more grounded when I'm utilizing unemotional thinking, which is not my usual modus operandi. I was happy to send a modest donation and would like to take a longer test you decide. All the best, Bubby Cohen

  7. I find it really interesting and inspiring that this test showed Fe as my strongest function (just a bit ahead of Fi but still). I self-identify as INFP, but also don't feel I fit many of the usual descriptions/expectations of this type. + I have been doing a lot of work on understanding + embodying Fe. It is also a possibility that -as you mentioned- the 8 function hierarchy is inaccurate...

  8. Majority of the results were in the middle, which happens a lot for me. But many due to the lack of variety in the questions led to my results being slightly skewed. I am a very extroverted person, but more in the manner of energy and connection with others. I do enjoy my time alone sure, but it's not a defining characteristic for me.

Personally, if you want the test to have better judgement, you might want to mix the questions up since they kind of blend together. They are all just a simple variation of the previous question.

I spend a lot of time analyzing myself, so as a person I've gotten much healthier with a lot of my negatives. I say this because the answers showed I was almost at the middle with everything, meaning it's not accurate enough data to go off of. I grew up in a sensing family with a ESTP father and MANY ISFJ's & ESFJ's, hence why the test labeled me as a feeler... but ask any of my exes, family, or friends and they'll tell you a muuuuch different answer 😂😂

Feel free to reach out to my email if you feel I'm wrong on any of this, or if you want to just talk 😁

  9. I really enjoy watching your videos. I think you have a good handle on the different types and you explain them well. Seems like a few people had difficulty with the "tasks" questions, I did too. I just interpreted it to mean a task is something you have to do, not want to do.

  10. You dont understand how Ni and Ne work according to your expectation. Youre test doesnt understand how Fi and Fe works. Apprently i have zero "energy" but an enfp? Perfect sense

  11. Some of the results were kind of confusing to read and understand. For example, the introversion/extroversion result scale was not labelled and I can assume that I am an introvert but if i was very in between, I would have difficulty reading the result. Some of the other result scales are difficult to read like this too

  12. This test was accurate for me. The explanations clear a lot of confusion (for instance, scoring higher on a demonstrative/6th function than on the dominant function). Questions were easy enough to understand for, imo, a wide variety of people. I'm curious about the type code. My result was TNFP, and I'm curious what the "T" part means? Anyway,I think this is a good cognitive functions test. 🙂
